This week the GW board selected Craig Wilson, from the Curtain Saints, as head coach of the WA Raiders for their 2009/10 campaign.
The GW board selected a committee from various clubs to review the applicants for the position, and to provide recommendations as to the best candidate.
With four fantastic applicants to review the task was not made easy, with each applicant having many favourable points for the committee to discuss.
The decision was such a close one that the committee was unable to recommend a clear favourite and each applicant was presented back to the board.
In the end it was agreed that with his wealth of football experience, his solid knowledge of our Eastern State competition and fantastic communication and
coaching skills, Craig would be the best Head Coach to move the WA Raiders towards their next National Championship.
Also selected on the night was Gerrit Boogerd of the Claremont Jets, who will be the Raiders team manager.
With Gerrit's long association with GW and his role as WA's representative to Gridiron Australia his experience will be a great asset to the team and it's preparations.
Gridiron West would like to thank, Justin Rogers, Kevin Wilson, and Dale Murray, for their applications for the position.
Each application was of a high standard and each of them should be congratulated for putting their hands up to support Gridiron in WA.
All persons interested in being an assistant coach under Coach Wilson, should approach him directly either in person or through their GW board member, over the next week or two.
