Obviously I cant help out as a player or a coach but I want to help, I have been coming to games for 5 seasons now and I have always tried to help out where I can. What frustrates me is the lack of appreciation.
I mentioned I would organise an MVP dinner for players/coaches/supporters, I was happy to go all out if this is what people wanted I could even have got photos into the West which would branch out even more interest into the sport as well as doing marketing flyers having experience in that industry as well....but I mention all of this and nothing gets said. I'm not going to put my back on the line when people from the board are just going to ignore my comments.
From a comment made to me by a someone who is on the board (i believe this to be true, or a least a very well known member of the political side of GW - someone I have also never spoken to before ever) I don't feel like females are very welcome in this league. I am not going to mention what was said, as I dont believe it is appropriate enough to be repeated but I certainly get the idea, and I am not speaking for everybody, but my opinons will not be appreciated if I was to nominate myself to be a volunteer of the helping on a board level. This is why I put my comments on here, at least that way I have somewhere to vent.
Jo more than happy to have you on board and trust me, I will happily take it as yourself, forrest, Sketty and sundevil are putting their hands up to assist where you can.
We can take this offline but I am not sure why you think the board did not support your idea of a formal function. As far as I could tell you were just assertaining the level of interest. If you wanted anything to/from the board level just let me know.
I completely disagree that your views or any females views will not be appreciated. We have had women assisting the GW board before and will do again (if all goes well). If that is the perception out there, especially as the board is sounding a bit like an old boys club (although if we were, then we all should get along and that doesnt happen very often) then that is something we need to change. If anything perhaps we need a few of the ...ahem... more outspoken women of the league to let us know what we can do better, to support you, and to put a womans/spectators point of view forward.
Sure the league is primarily for the players.. and without them, there would be no league.. however we love it when our partners turn up, watch and participate. And we all know that if we keep the partners happy, they are MUCH more likely not to begrudge us the time we spend on football.
