Discussion from the 2010 raiders take it to the house tour

Ochenta Cinco wrote:Cully, as I have mentioned several times on these forums and also at games as well, I am more than willing to help out. Whether this means on a board level, or to help out and just report to the board rather than attend meetings.

Obviously I cant help out as a player or a coach but I want to help, I have been coming to games for 5 seasons now and I have always tried to help out where I can. What frustrates me is the lack of appreciation.

I mentioned I would organise an MVP dinner for players/coaches/supporters, I was happy to go all out if this is what people wanted I could even have got photos into the West which would branch out even more interest into the sport as well as doing marketing flyers having experience in that industry as well....but I mention all of this and nothing gets said. I'm not going to put my back on the line when people from the board are just going to ignore my comments.

From a comment made to me by a someone who is on the board (i believe this to be true, or a least a very well known member of the political side of GW - someone I have also never spoken to before ever) I don't feel like females are very welcome in this league. I am not going to mention what was said, as I dont believe it is appropriate enough to be repeated but I certainly get the idea, and I am not speaking for everybody, but my opinons will not be appreciated if I was to nominate myself to be a volunteer of the helping on a board level. This is why I put my comments on here, at least that way I have somewhere to vent. ;)

Jo more than happy to have you on board and trust me, I will happily take it as yourself, forrest, Sketty and sundevil are putting their hands up to assist where you can.
We can take this offline but I am not sure why you think the board did not support your idea of a formal function. As far as I could tell you were just assertaining the level of interest. If you wanted anything to/from the board level just let me know.

I completely disagree that your views or any females views will not be appreciated. We have had women assisting the GW board before and will do again (if all goes well). If that is the perception out there, especially as the board is sounding a bit like an old boys club (although if we were, then we all should get along and that doesnt happen very often) then that is something we need to change. If anything perhaps we need a few of the ...ahem... more outspoken women of the league to let us know what we can do better, to support you, and to put a womans/spectators point of view forward.

Sure the league is primarily for the players.. and without them, there would be no league.. however we love it when our partners turn up, watch and participate. And we all know that if we keep the partners happy, they are MUCH more likely not to begrudge us the time we spend on football.

you have some very good points and ideas and as a board member I would be happy to support your ideas and push for some of them to get addressed at a board level .

Cully,
Is there anywhere on the agenda that these type of ideas can get raised at board level ???

We can include anything on the Agenda, so if anyone ever wants something raised, let me know. If you want to come along to present it at the board meeting, then even better otherwise give me notes etc and we can present it for you.

I am happy to put my hand up to help where I can Cully. I have a bit of experience running things in QLD (I was president of the T'ville club for a few years, I organised games vs Arizona to happen in T'ville - so crap like boarding with a high school, hiring of venue, security and ambulance services and all that sort of stuff).. i don;t have the same sort of time available now that I had back then (got a family now), but I am happy to volunteer time or knowledge.

Y'all just have to let us know when you need the help!

Its good to hear the support from you and Ben, I do really appreciate this and will put together a proposal for the MVP dinner at least and we can work with interest from there.

As for the certain previous female board member I believe you are talking about, I have certain associations with her now and she has mentioned to me about certain board members not being so "female friendly" (not to mention a few other things). I didn't think this was the case and had shrugged them off, until the comment made towards me on Saturday...although not putting me down as a member of the GW league, it was a derogatory comment that this person should know better not to say. It has in some ways put me off of coming to board meetings or putting my ideas forward as, although some people may think that it wasn't a big deal and others that actual heard it realised it was, I feel quite humiliated by the it and will therefore be uncomfortable around him and other members of the board that witnessed it. I wont go on about it any more though as I would rather not make a big deal of it, for my own sake.

But, if I have your support and that of Ben's I will be more than happy to work out some proposal for this MVP night, and in putting other ideas forward in the future.

Thanks

I am more than willing to put my hand for anything GW related. I am a stay at home mum, so am home on my ass most days, of course after doing my "housebitch" duties, so i have all the time in the world, and i have a few good sources out there, if people need things......

When there was talk about opening up a canteen i offered help to Jo, but that fell through as you had weddings etc on and couldnt commit right? :? Something along those lines i think.....

So if things need to be done, im your girl....... 8-) People need to speak up with that want something done though, otherwise it wont get done.

Jo, you need to tell me what happened, one GW girl to another
